Catheter and UTI: Probably nothing need be done. Urine is colonized with bacteria in virtually anyone with a longstanding bladder catheter. Usually there is no need for treatment unless causing a more serious problem, like sepsis (infecting the bloodstream) or pyelonephritis (kidney infection). Attempting to treat simply brings on replacement with a more antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Discuss with his doctor.
