I am elderly, have (low) htn and pre-diabetic. would it be safe for me to fly? my concern is there will be no social distancing on the plane i would have to be in.

OK: To fly from a medical standpoint, stay well hydrated. Hopefully the airline will do a good job at separating customers and mandating and enforcing masks.

Air travel: As of yesterday (22 JUL 2020) some airlines (Like American airlines) are booking seats to full capacity. On the other hand, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines continue to keep middle seats free to allow for social distancing. Some have installed extremely efficient ventilation that can recirculate air in 5 minutes. Some check for temps. I would be mindful who you travel with.
