Yes: The ovulation prediction kit measures a hormone called in lh. In some instances the lh may rise without ovulation actually occurring and some women have chronically elevated lh levels.

Elevated luteinizing hormone.: There are several possible answers to your question. First you had your ovulation wrong and in fact you going to ovulate five days late.
Second, you had it wrong the other way and in fact lobulated earlier and the positive ovulation kit is actually registering HCG that is to say you are pregnant.
Third, you are actually not ovulating and have chronically elevated luteinizing hormone levels such as occurs often in PC os, polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Yes : The ovulation kit only measures a threshold of the hormone lh. Some women constantly have a lh above this level. Therefore they would seem to have a positive surge when in fact the lh level is high. Because this is a urine test the concentration will also change with the dilution of the urine.

Couple things: Pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome) can cause your natural lh levels to be a little high and affect the test. Maybe you ovulated but your hormone levels were low. A bad test strip or just a false test.
