A member asked:

Good morning doctors. is it true that if i am in a store and i am wearing a mask, but i wind up in close proximity to people who are not wearing masks for whatever reason, that i am at least offered some protection from wearing my mask?

Yes, masks help.: Wear a face mask if you or people around you have symptoms. A face mask should be comfortable, or you'll be less likely to keep it on. N95 masks filter out more of the smallest particles but are less comfortable to wear. Face masks work by blocking many of the airborne particles and by acting as your sleeve when you cough or sneeze (so you don't have to look for your sleeve to sneeze into).

Yes: A face mask will offer you some protection from others. However, if is most effective when worn by the person who is infected.
