A member asked:

My daughter of 9 has urinary infection and was placed on penicillin anti-biotics by a doctor, she are however experiencing pain. what type of pain medicine, e.g. paracetamol, can i give her , that is suitable for her age and wont worsen her condition?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Odd choice: I would not consider penicillin a proper antibiotic for a 9 yo with a UTI unless a urine culture showed it to be the proper choice. A penicillin like drug (ampicillin or amoxicillin) would be a better choice if no culture sensitivity result was available. Paracetamol is okay for discomfort.
