Get seen!: Please get seen as soon as possible. You have a good chance of having a broken bone (fracture) or two! See your GP or go to an immediate care clinic or ED as soon as possible. Don't use that arm for now (sling or splint/brace) while waiting.

I'd get an x-ray: I probably would get an x-ray if it is still hurting you to check for fracture or dislocation of one of your carpal bones, metacarpal bones or distal radius and ulna. (Bones that make up the wrist and hand). I don't believe you should need a letter if you explain what happened. That may depend on your insurance carrier. Good luck.
