Asthma: Asthma is a condition where inflammation and muscle spasms block the airflow into/out of your lungs. Albuterol, the medication in most inhaled nebulizers relieves the muscle spasms and steroids reduce the inflammation, allowing you to breathe. If you are not relieving the symptoms, your blood oxygen levels will drop and cause very severe problems. Both of these meds are safe and effective.

Cold air/viral : During the winter season, cold air and viral illnesses in particular may trigger bronchospasm. The quick acting Albuterol is used to provide temporary relief. The steroids should be used to control inflammation in the lung. Oral use of prednisone for 3-5 days is not typically associated with serious side effects. Continue the inhaled steroid, rinse your mouth and have pulmonary function testing.
