When stretching achilles tendon, there is a pulling sensation and burning pain in the back of my heel. doing calf wall stretches, heel drops on a step. the towel stretch doesn't hurt, but burns afterwards. should i stop the stretches until pt?

Continue stretching: Until you see the PT, maintain range of motion via stretching; however, compare the non affected side with the painful one to gauge physiologic range to avoid over stretching. Since this tendon is so superficial, rub Voltaren gel (OTC) onto the painful area 30 min BEFORE stretching, and do gradual stretching vs rapid stretch. Good luck!

Physical therapist : I would like to start off by saying when dealing with normal muscles that is not injured or surgically involve muscles, stretching should NOT be painful. I am very concerned about some of the methods you mentioned about stretching especially dropping off a step, it can be very dangerous. You must also first know, before stretching, the proper method for stretching any given muscle.
