Knee Crepitus: Knee Crepitus usually happens when the tendons or ligaments snap over the bony structures in the knee, or as a result of patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFS), torn cartilage (meniscus), or osteoarthritis (OA). Most of these are wear and tear injuries. You should follow up with your Orthopedic Surgeon for a diagnosis and treatment. Since the pain is worse, the Dr may suggest a stepped up treatment.

Knee pain: It is really important for doctor and patient to work as members of your treatment team. Crepitus was one possibility per an earlier answer, but if it was a loud clunking sound there might be a different cause. Please do talk to your orthopedica surgeon to ask for a clear explanation of what was seen & to advise of increased pain. Get diagnosis for dr.
