I have a habit of biting my tongue or sometimes chewing on velcro (maybe because it scratches my tongue) since i was young. the urge comes & goes. but since a month ago ive been doing it much more often (daily). im also pregnant. what causes this?

Stimming: This behavior is called “stimming”. (self-stimulating behaviors, usually involving repetitive movements, actions or sounds). Not only does this activity help you to focus, but also helps you to relax/cope with anxiety in new situations/environments. Chewing velcro cannot hurt you unless it is swallowed. Other examples include biting nails, twirling hair, tapping fingers/foot, cracking knuckles

Unsure.: You got great input from a pediatrician that this may be stimming. Ok, a little different input from a shrink- this might be a compulsive behavior. If the urge becomes stronger until you do it and then dissapates, it might be a compulsion. Get it checked out to know for sure.
