A member asked:

Should i make sure that family members visiting a newborn are all up-to-date on the pertussis vaccine? what qualifies as up-to-date, a booster within the past ten years?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cocooning: The greatest fatality rate for pertussis occurs to those under 6 mo of age. If the mother has an up to date TdaP given during pregnancy baby will have some resistance but is still susceptable. Cocooning is the concept that anyone that comes near baby before they have had their shots & develop solid immunity will have had a TdaP (within ~5 yrs). It's a good practice. Good luck.
