Treatable: condition which will respond to antibiotic therapy. Usually no long term effects unless you are resistant to antibiotics.

It happens: As a bacterial disease, pertussis acquisition depends on level of exposure and level of resistance.The vaccine, though helpful, will not prevent the illness but has been shown to reduce intensity for the individual & epidemics in the community.Pertussis is most deadly among those under a year old, but does trigger the "100 days " cough in adults. Even full disease does not confer total immunity.
