Many things: Early menopause can cause many things to happen. You may feel the effects of low or no estrogen. This can be hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood changes, sleep issues, sexual issues such as desire and vaginal dryness and you will have some long term effects such as thinning of bones and other long term issues. Discuss at length with your pcp/gyn.

What are the signs and symptoms of early menopause?

Same as regular: Occurring before the age of 40, the cessation of menses for at least one year is considered premature ovarian insufficiency (failure sounds so judgey!). Symptoms may include hot flashes, vaginal dryness, fatigue, loss of libido, mood changes, weight gain. If you are much younger than the average age of 52 at menopause, definitely see your doc to make of sure what is going on.

Yes: Early menopause can be associated with many health concerns such as osteoporosis, heart disease, weight gain, depression, and possibly even dementia. If you are a good candidate for hormone replacement, you should consider hormone replacement to help prevent these problems.
