Consult with ortho: It is quite likely that your friend needs treatment for arthritis of the knee. The safest medicine to use is tylenol (acetaminophen). Supplements such as glucosamine and/or chondroitin sulfate can help as well. Nsaid - type medications (motrin, advil, or aleve for example) can have mild side effiects on the heart, so should always be used with caution. Consult with an orthopaedist to discuss other options.
