Consider alternative: Mononucleosis is often found as a co-infection with strep. Some of the worst sore throats seen are from mono. I would first do a mono test before doing any more antibiotics. If negative there are other protocols your doc can follow to eradicate live strep A if it found on a culture, not just a rapid antigen test.
