The side of my thumb next to my nail is inflamed, hot and hard. it feel like my heart is beating in the tip of my thumb. i cannot see any obvious cuts or a splinter that could be infected. ive been soaking it in hot water. hasnt helped.

Paronychia: Your symptoms suggest paronychia or an infection of the skin around the nail. Soaking the finger few times a day helps most of the time. If no improvement talk to your doc about an exam either in person or virtual.
