Neck strain: The most common cause of a stiff neck is a muscle strain or soft tissue sprain. It may also be accompanied by a headache, neck pain, shoulder pain and/or arm pain. In most cases, pain and stiffness go away naturally within a week. Treat at home with Rest, alternating Cold packs for first 48 hours 10 minutes at a time 5-6 times a day. Then follow with heat over the next 3-4 days. Take Ibuprofen
