Gout v DM neuropathy: Gout most commonly affects the joints on one side whereas pain nerve from diabetes (neuropathy) involves both sides and not isolated to the joint. Diabetes can cause various types of nerve pain. A visit to the doctor and an exam can sort this out in one visit, usually. X-rays and nerve studies may be needed.
