Yes: Dermabrasion is a lost art- it will definitly work wonders on a raised scar. Other modalities that will work are co2 lasers.

It could get worse: Dermabrasion is unlikely to make a hypertrophic or keloid scar better and could make it worse. It is unlikely to make it less wide. Injected steroids may help to flatten the scar.
