A calorie is a calorie, but surely avoid sugar or simple starch calories.

Weight loss: Weight loss is dependent on a person's motivation to change. When the goal is not reached as desired due to triggers or emotions, how will the person react? More important than exercise is reduced calorie intake. Proteins, carbohydrates, and fats all stimulate metabolism the amount of stimulation is much more on protein and least with fats. Exercise is an added bonus to weight loss.
