Husband has blood clots in the legs, is he at risk for the clot to go to his lungs or heart and he has had pain and swelling in hands and entire legs?

Patients with: Clot in the leg are at risk for migration to the lung. This is the main risk of the clot in the leg. The next downstream location is the lung, but not the heart.

Yes: Blood clots in the leg (deep vein thrombosis) have the potential to break loose and travel through the right side of the heart into the lungs. This is called a pulmonary embolism. Dvt in the leg can cause leg swelling. Would not expect to have swelling in both legs or in the hands due to clot - unless there is clots in all distributions- very unlikely. Go in for evaluation.
