Probably normal: True constipation in a newborn is not common. An baby feeding breast milk/formula should have soft or liquidy brown/green BM's. If you notice hard, clay like stool or pellet-like stool then you should take your infant to the pediatrician. Otherwise, stools may be produced once daily or every other day. Don't give additional water. The crying may be due to gas. Try burping him more frequently.
