A member asked:

I woke up last night with a sharp pain on the middle upper abdomen which radiates to the back. the pain is severe when am lying down and it comes like wave. what could that be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can evaluate: Many things are in the abdomen: stomach, pancreas, liver, small intestine, gall bladder, large intestine, abdominal muscles, etc... A primary care doctor can help figure things out. Pain in right upper abdomen, especially with symptoms that occur after eating, can be due to gallstones or other gall bladder disease. The pancreas and stomach are in the left upper abdomen. Severe means an ER visit.
