Rectal blood: If the blood is fresh appearing and not mixed with the stool, this may be bleeding from internal hemorrhoids. I recommend consulting a colorectal surgeon for evaluation and treatment. Internal hemorrhoids can be banded and in this way removed in the office setting. If you develop brisk, heavy bleeding proceed to the hospital emergency room where prompt care is available
