Diphenhydramine: Diphenhydramine (benedryl) or any similar anti-histamine may help stop further swelling. However, don't expect anything to quickly remove what is there. You describe a classical arthus reaction where the body releases chemicals at a bite site. The chemicals turn capillaries into soaker hoses that flood the area with serum to dilute bite toxins.it takes time for this swelling to gradually fade.
