Constipation: Hemorrhoids (swollen, inflamed veins in the rectum and anus) are caused by straining during BMs. If you are constipated and are straining to pass the BM, it can result in hemorrhoids. Take measures to ease constipation by increasing liquids and fiber in your diet, and use stool softeners. Ice packs, Witch hazel or preparation H to alleviate pain.
