Nutrition & exercise: Ha! bet you weren't expecting this answer again! but it's true! healthy nutrition w/lots of fiber & fluids (water, not soda pop & alcohol) are key to maintaining good bowel function. That & staying active w/regular physical activity. Some folks to do need help in form of osmotic laxatives like MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) or fiber like psyllium. But try to avoid regular use of stimulant laxatives like exlax. See doc 2.

Fiber and water: You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.
