Fix the ASD: Long standing ASD causes right sided heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and left to right blood shunting. The best solution is to have the ASD repaired. You have all of the cardiac complications of an atrial septal defect. In order to prevent progression of heart disease you should have the ASD repaired. Over time your heart will fail and repair of the ASD may no longer be prudent. Do it now.
