I have a swollen lump on the side of my right knee. it's clearly visible, and there is a hard bump inside the swollen softer part. not injured knee in any way but have dislocated baby toe on same foot twice in last month, so could be overuse of knee?

OVERUSE VS CYST?: Sounds like you are active. Seeing a picture would be helpful It could be inflammatory response. Might be helpful to have imaging of the knee given the hard bump to see if it includes the actual joint or if it is cyst. See if it responds to ice packs and rest.

Needs workup: Overuse of the knee results in pain and swelling, but not a lump. Any lump, especially one with a hard bump inside needs a workup by a doctor. Xrays/CT/MRI may be used to determine what is going on inside the lump and knee. Until your appointment, use alternating ice/warm compresses.
