Sprained ligament: You may have sustained an injury to one of the important stabilizing ligaments of your knee. The most likely injured ligaments that protect against buckling and sideward looseness are the acl and lcl (anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments). You should be evaluated expeditiously by an orthopaedic surgeon. Avoid running, jumping, pivoting and deep knee bending until you are evaluated.
