Ulcer: This is likely an aphthous ulcer. Therapy includes topical benzocaine, bendadryl or magnesium hydroxide. Oral NSAID. If no relief your provider may need to get you topical stroid or Minocycline.

Additional care: Dr. Hickerson's advice is good, but I would also suggest very warm salt water rinses. Take a glass of very warm and add 1 tsp of salt. Gargle for 10-20 seconds, utilizing the entire liquid from the glass. Do this 3-4 times per day. Also, for more immediate and long-term relief, look for a dentist that can use photobiomodulation with a laser--technique is painless noninvasive, requiring no shot.
