Exam is needed: One's primary care doctor, or an Urgent Care or ER doctor, can take a look into the ear to see what is there. If there is an insect in the ear, depending on size and situation, the doctor might have to remove it under a magnifying microscope. A small bug might be flushed out water. Usually, the doctor will squirt in lidocaine to put the bug to sleep first.
