Yeast? Atrophic?: These indeed are typical symptoms for vaginal yeast infection, but other things can do this as well. At age 48, you might be menopausal with lower estrogen levels -- and atrophic vaginitis (due to low estrogen) also can cause itching and irritation. You could try an OTC yeast medication, e.g. an "azole" cream. But for sure see your doctor if that doesn't fix the problem.
