Usually not: One's primary care doctor should be able to evaluate a woman in her mid 20's to see if any preparations for future pregnancy need to be done, and to start oral birth control pills when pregnancy is not desired. Most women can use birth control pills, but a few should not, and the doctor can discuss those issues. After starting the pills, a follow-up visit may be about 3 months later.
