Am on toprol 25mg daily for fast heartbeat. but my systolic and diastolic may occasionally spike into the htn stage 1, but my md does not seem to be concerned. he said to return in a year's time for recheck. what i am to make of this?

Hypertension: If your blood pressure is not consistently around 130/80 and often exceeds 140/85, I recommend adding an antihypertensive medication like lisinopril or amlodipine, rather than increasing the Toprol dose and not waiting for an appointment for months. Discuss this with your MD if you feel that you need better bp control.

I have been on Metoprolol, 12.5 mg/cut in half daily now for approx. 7 yrs. It was originally prescribed to me for fast resting ht. rate..85-90 bpm along with pre-hypertension. I exercise on a regular basis now and have been for the past couple of years.
Toprol 25mg/day started 6/19. Systolic used to be "all over the place", but now generally between 133 and 148 averaging 140 but with occasional spikes up to 156. Should I tell the MD now as opposed to next visit in 4 months?
