Exam needed: The chest discomfort and congestion raise the possibility of bronchitis or pneumonia. Other causes of chest discomfort include pleurisy, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax,pericarditis or other heart pathology, pinched nerve or other rib cage problems. However associated congestion, especially with cough and phlegm, are characteristic of infection.
