Systemic relationshi: The mouth has over 700 types of bacteria. One theory suggests that infected or bleeding gums leave open blood vessels that allow the bacteria to enter the bloodstream. The bacteria will then stick to platelets in the bloodstream, which causes the blood to form clots. If the blood cannot flow properly, it can flow back to the heart causing a heart attack. A healthy mouth can equal a healthy heart.

Good Oral Hygiene: Is a good habit to maintain. The biofilm from food and bacteria can harden. If the build up reaches the gingival margin and below, the soft tissue will rub against the tooth/root surface and can cause wounds and microbleeding, therefore, becomes the pathway for the bacteria to enter the bloodstream.

Inflammation: It's all about the way our bodies fight infections, through inflammatory ways, and that can be bad on the heart. More complicated than that, but that is the short answer.
