A member asked:

I was prescribed cephalexin since bactrim was not working for my uti... is cephalexin a better choice and most likely will help more or are the odds the same?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Different antibiotic: Don’t think ‘better’ with antibiotics. These drugs are quite different in their mechanisms of action and the type of bacteria they control. Bactrim is a good 1st choice for community UTI as it covers most pathogens. I hope your doc got a urine specimen to determine which organism is causing your problem, cephalexin is a good 2nd choice. Add cranberry or blueberry juice daily to help!
