No way to guess: Some people who are exposed to hand-foot-mouth disease do not show ill symptoms. These people (called "carriers") may have the virus and be contagious for a while, so they can pass the virus to another person. Generally, doctors do not recommend isolating "carriers" of HFM disease from the community, because it is hard to determine who the carriers are or how long a carrier stays contagious.
