A short time.: It is moderately contagious and is spread through direct contact with the mucus, saliva, or feces of an infected person. A person is contagious when the first symptoms appear and may continue until the blister-like skin lesions disappear.

Easy to catch!: You bet! the virus is spread via nose and throat secretions, blister fluid and poop. You're most contagious during the first week of symptoms although you can shed virus for several weeks later. You can return to daycare or school when your blisters are healed. Adults can sometimes get hfm disease but usually happens to kids under 10 years old.

Depends on your view: The hfm viral illness is caused by viruses that will be excreted in the stool for some time (wks) after primary infection. The febrile period (days) they may pass the virus in oral secretions. The texas dept of health standard does not exclude these kids from daycare after the fever is gone. Standard hygenic practices during diaper changes will contain the spread from that source.

Fever + sores: Hand foot and mouth is a viral infection that most commonly affects toddlers in the summer and fall. It causes fever, painful mouth ulcers, and painless spots on the hands and feet. Sometimes there is a more-extensive rash.
