Doctor can recheck: Tonsillitis can be from strep throat, a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), EB virus, or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or acid reflux. The treatment depends on the cause that one's doctor attributed the tonsillitis to. If treatment is leading to other symptoms, the doctor can recheck to see how things are related to other symptoms, and may revise the therapy.
