The two are similar: Tonsillitis can be from strep throat, a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies, irritants, or acid reflux. Usually, a person sees a doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly. If getting stomach symptoms from strep throat treatment, one's doctor can recheck. Clarithromycin is very similar to Zithromax.
