Heavy and long: periods, can result in anemia, even requiring blood transfusions, in extreme cases. If this continues or recurs, an exam with your doctor is appropriate.

Long period ?'s: At 44, ovulation is not always regular, which will delay the onset of menstruation, and the sustained production of estrogen from the delay will make the next menstruation much heavier. Ask your gyn about low dose oral contraceptives, which one can take until mid-fifties, which will stop the present issue.
