Question vague but: Generally, for ankle pain, the doctor will want to know about trauma or over-use. Different people have differing perceptions of pain, so it can be hard to tell what a patient really feels without an in-person exam. If a sprained ankle is very painful or if not improving daily after the first two days, a doctor will want to examine it. There are also many other causes of ankle pain.
