Ive had a small bump at the lower back of my head forever but recently it has started giving me random sharp pains on random days. this seems to have only started after i put some pressure and rubbed the lump area with my fingers. what is going on?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. You may watch and wait. If the bump more than doubles in size, ulerates, bleeds, other bumps develop, you get fever of lose weight,it would be prudent to see your doctor. You may have traumatized the bump, give it time to settle down, Wish you good health!

Lymph node?: Among other possibilities a mechanically irritated occipital lymph node is possible and providing location confirmed. Other possibilities cannot be excluded. Your PCP may be able to palpate and provide further recommendations, based on actual exam and history.
