A member asked:

Could bp meds lower an isolated diastolic hbp at a range of 95 and 100 without lowering the systolic bp too much and cause systolic hypotension? especially when i'm asleep since it already gets down to 110/70 till 100/60 without being on meds.

Diastolic BP: There are no antihypertensive medications that only target the diastolic BP. If you require medication to treat hypertension, avoid dropping the diastolic bp under 60. In your case, I recommend starting a very low dose diuretic or an ACE inhibitor but take it in the morning after being up and about. Follow-up with your MD and continue home bp monitoring. Don't take bp meds in the afternoon.
