DKA: DKA is the result of not having insulin. Your liver needs insulin to appropriately metabolize sugar. When is does not get this there is an imbalance between insulin and other hormones like glucagon and cortisol. The process is the release of acetones from your liver and free fatty acids from your muscles. The acids accumulate and cause people to get sick.
