DKA is seen in Type I diabetes, and can be the catastrophic first sign. T1DM is an autoimmune disease, but is found in children too young to receive Meningococcus vaccine and in children older. Of the millions of children who are immunized on time, only a tiny fraction go on to develop autoimmune diseases; it would be unethical to test with children not receiving life saving vaccines.

There is probably no association. The development of DKA has been associated with family history of Diabetes. A virtual consult with Healthtap is available to further review. Your pediatric Endocrinologist may have additional information. Follow his Diabetes plan, diet and rev the signs of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. There are multiple online resources for parents, including the AAP
