Insomnia: First get sleep apnea testing to assess if that is a cause of sleep issues over the counter (OTC) medications that are used include melatonin 1-3 mg start low dose; Valerian ( take melatonin about 1.5 hours apart from Valerian). Which other medication you are on? As psychoactive drugs can all increase drowsiness so do not take together- discuss with MD. Learn sleep hygiene. F/u/ w/ sleep MD

Sleep medications: There isn't enough information provided to know why you can't take Zopiclone (Imovane, Zimovane, Dopareel.) There are many medications that doctors use to treat sleep such as Zolpidem (ambien or ambien CR), Eszopiclone (Lunesta), Ramelteon (Rozerem), Zaleplon (Sonata), Silenor (Doxepine), Antidpressants & benzodiazapines.
