A member asked:

Daughter age 4 has grommets put in a year ago. recently clear/orange started draining from ear. should we be treating with something? how bad would swimming be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Doctor can evaluate: Her pediatrician can evaluate the ears and can refer back to the ENT doctor if necessary. Sometimes children get temporary drainage through grommets (PET's) when they have cold symptoms. For chronic drainage, treatment is usually needed. For drainage that looks infected (thicker, cloudy, or having odor), treatment is usually needed. Swimming may be ok if one's head is above water.
